Founded in 1971 by Coach Dave Hann with just a couple of coaches and a handful of kids, the West Valley Eagles Track Club has evolved into one of the most respected local youth sports programs. The Eagles have been a launching point for many world class track and field athletes as well as Olympic & world medalist, including Allyson Felix, Quincy Watts, Marion Jones, Deena Drossin Kastor, Joanna Hayes, Inger Miller, Tyree Washington and Alysia Johnson-Montano.
These past Eagle greats brought back to America 13 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze Olympic medals. Would you believe that of the 200 plus countries that have competed in track & field at the Olympics since 1896, only 18 countries have accumulated more than 13 gold medals. Believe it or not, these past Eagle greats have won 24 gold medals at the World Championships with only 7 countries over the history of the World Championships winning more. In the 2012 Olympics in London England, Allyson Felix won gold in the 200-meter dash, the 4 X 400-meter relay and on the World Record setting 4 X 100-meter relay. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Allyson won silver in the 400 meter dash and gold in both the 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 meter relays, bringing her total Olympic gold medals to six; the most for any women competing at the Olympics. In the 2017 World Championships in London, Allyson won two more gold and one bronze medal bringing her total gold medals to 11, tying her with Usain Bolt, and her total number of medals to 16 – the most for any athlete at the World Championships. She truly is the all-time world’s greatest female runner!
The Eagles compete with other Valley Youth Conference Track & Field clubs in local meets, and qualifying athletes can go on to compete at regional and national meets. The Eagles routinely have more athletes than any other conference team representing the Valley Youth Conference All-Star Team (Valley United) at the USA Track and Field age group Nationals and Junior Olympics. It is through these national competitions that the Eagles are recognized as one of the top track clubs in the United States. With dedicated volunteer coaches, supportive parents, generous sponsors, and motivated athletes, the West Valley Eagles Track and Field Club has helped thousands of kids soar.
